These pictures are from our daily counting collections activity. This is a large part of our math curriculum. It provides a great hands on experience for the students to count object, gorup, and "show" the number they counted. Children need many and varied experiences with counting to learn which numbers come next, how this number sequence is related to the objects in front of them, how to keep track of which ones have been counted and which still need to be counted. Experience with counting provides a solid foundation for future experience with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Partners are assigned daily and each partner has a specific job. A job chart is used to show students their "job" for the day.

Here are a few pictures from today...Monday, September 14th, 2009. I was very proud of the team work! Several students used the 100's chart (as seen in one of the pictures) to show how to write the number...great strategy!
